As a narrative therapist, I have a passion for peoples stories; the uniqueness within them and empowering those I work with. No matter if we share similarities of family ties, faith or geographic region, every person's story matters and no two stories are alike. They are just as personal and unique as your fingerprint. That unique pattern tells a story and only you have the right and power to tell it.
How we view ourselves in relation to our story and how we tell that story, matters in regards to how we feel.
Perhaps somewhere along your path (or you and your spouse's path together) an event occurred that had you feeling off balance, stressed, or in pain emotionally. Maybe you (or your partner) don't know where that change occurred. Maybe it was a spoken dialogue from a loved one? Or an insinuated message through the interactions over the course of your life (or over the life together with your partner)?
I believe in the hidden strength within the story of our lives and I strive to help you see that : You. Are. Important. As Lucille Ball said, "Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world." I help you love you & your story.
"We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better" - JK Rowling
My work focuses on encouraging growth and empowerment in your story versus removing an event from it. I view my role as a therapist as a guide towards the strength within you to achieve empowerment of your story versus me altering it.
My belief is that we all have the power within ourselves; I just have the privilege to help ignite that power.
This growth occurs through focus on the event or event(s), increasing understanding of it, processing it and development of skills or tools to manage and cope in the future. We have the power to grow from our stressors in our story and I am here to help you be empowered after emotional pain or injury to your story.
Either individually, or as a couple, I walk alongside you to detangle, identify, and process that path to achieve your desired outcomes for therapy. Keep in mind your unique story requires individualization in our work together, so this doesn't always mean that this processing is diving into the past. I utilize a range of clinical styles to supplement my narrative base and tailor treatment based on client needs. These approaches include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) among others.
